“I believe in barbecue. As comfort food and health food, as a cuisine of both solace and celebration. When I’m feeling good, I want barbecue. And when I’m feeling bad, I just want barbecue more. I believe in barbecue in all its regional derivations, in its ethnic translations, in forms that range from white-tablecloth presentations of cunningly sauced beef short ribs, to Chinese take-out spareribs that stain your fingers red, to the most authentic product of the rib shacks of the Deep South.
I believe in the art of generations of pit men working in relative obscurity to keep alive the craft of slow smoking as it’s been practiced for as long as there’s been fire. A barbecue cook must have an intimate understanding of his work: the physics of fire and convection, the hard science of meat and heat and smoke — and then forget it all to achieve a sort of gut-level, instinct for the process.
I believe that good barbecue needs sides the way good blues need rhythm, and that there is only one rule: Serve whatever you like, but whatever you serve, make it fresh.”
I believe that if you don’t make a mess when you’re eating, then you are not doing it right.
Ed Randolph is the creative entrepreneurial force behind the successful Handsome Devil LLC a brand that delivers consistent traditional BBQ, offering exceptional food and beverage experiences for guests whether at their storefront or at a 100,000 person event. The founder and managing member of the New York-based company provides bold brand leadership with a clear sense of purpose, combined with a high level of enthusiasm to deliver products that are well-received by consumers, investors, and the industry alike. The company’s future in hospitality includes ground-up development, historic-adaptive re-use, acquisitions, and third-party management. These outlets can offer amazing food-service operations that function as independent restaurants, and are built for both traveling guests and the people who live and work in these cities, resulting in opportunities to positively impact those communities.
Mr. & Mrs. Randolph are residents of the Hudson Valley. They take great pride in showcasing what the community has to offer from the wood they use in their smokers to the products they carry in their restaurant. Their commitment to providing fresh, local ingredients is what makes the Handsome Devil brand stand out above the rest. Their lives are based around family as their culinary backgrounds and interest in food both started like most, observing and learning in the kitchen from their grandmother and mothers.
As a small business we understand the importance of community. Our business is predicated on the support we receive from the local community. It is with great pride that our team does everything we can to give back to our community to show our support for them. Over the years we supported numerous organizations from Operation BBQ Relief, to our local Veterans to numerous youth organizations from cheerleading to hockey to toys for tots to the soap box derby.
The staff at HD are the most valued resource within the company. Each person is a leader, a decision maker. Everyone embodies the “all hustle” attitude and walks with a swagger that only one who wears the spade can have. They are proud to say they can move 10,000 plates and 2 whole hogs at an event and humble to volunteer their time to feed the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The Handsome Devil brand would be no where without the dedication and hard work of the best damn staff on the planet.
